Stepping Stones

Dupixent Update!

What has everyone been up to? I have been so busy in the past two weeks with projects and small stepping stones. Let me tell you, my skin feels so much better! I’ve been on Dupixent for about a month and few days. It feels really nice to be able to wear shirts and not worry about my skin being in pain. One of the places I had it bad was on my scalp. My scalp now doesn’t have any scabs from my eczema. Behind my neck was just as bad, and now its totally clear. There are few spots that is still dry, and my arms still have an uneven skin tone. I’m sure over time it will just tan.

Looking back and my pictures from a month ago, it makes me cringe. I know it was something I had to go through and gave me so much will power for trials ahead. Stepping stones to move forward and not regret any experiences. People may have their concerns with using a new drug, but I actually feel like I have so much more energy and self confidence now. I do have some scars from having eczema and it reminds me of how far I came and to just being happy in my own skin.

LipSense

Yea, you all probably heard about SeneGence. Well I’m part of this organization with a beauty line guaranteed to beautify any women. I love their long lasting lip color, and I can’t wait to use their other products.

I know its about building a team, but honestly I feel like these sisters on the team has been so supportive. There are girls who are less than a year in the business and they reached their 1 Million mark. It would nice to shoot for 1 Million mark, but I’m going to enjoy the business and not get so obsessed with sales.

Before starting SeneGence, I just felt like I needed to do more. I graduated with my Bachelor Degree last year, and right now my husband is going to school. I thought about going to grad school, but I knew it would be tough with our schedules and going to work full time. I also have a student loan that I just want to go away. I don’t want to accumulate anymore money on my loan.

My cousin started to sell LipSense and I thought about how she was enjoying herself and all the colors are so beautiful. I took the leap of faith to sign up and start learning about all these products. It feels such a great feeling to learn about products in order to share what I learn about these products. I haven’t seen a big commission check, but I’m enjoying the ride. In one training from one of the up line sisters, she said “Faith it till you make it”. I totally believe in having faith in all things you do, otherwise you wont get far. If you are thinking about trying any SeneGene products you can follow me on Instagram and Facebook @livealohabeauty.

Carnival

melannieruth_carnival-82

Our Church has a carnival with just basic games. Let me just tell you, I won the grand prize of Chocolate kisses! There was basically a bunch of kisses in a mason jar, and we had to guess how many kisses were in the jar. I was actually one of the last people to guess a number.  I guessed 137, and I got it exactly on the dot.

I also lost horribly and the whip cream game. But my husband did pretty good. You ask me why am I writing about our carnival experience. Well although it wasn’t planned out so great, I changed my attitude to enjoy my time. I was grateful to have talk with friends and to just laugh and let loose. I didn’t care about embarrassing myself because it was all for laughs. Life is to be enjoyed while trying.

I hope you all have a great week. I was thinking about all my readers. Is there anything thing I could improve on?

Sunday Dinner

Aloha!

Tonight we ate dinner at the Bishop’s home. Bishop is called to lead the congregation in a certain district or area. His home has a beautiful view. When you walk into their home, all you see is the ocean. They had a lanai (porch) and it was large enough to fit about 20 people and the sound of waves crashing was priceless.

Dinner was amazing. We had fluffy Brazilian rice and beans, cucumber and tomato salad, and steaks. I can not forget about the steaks and the grilled pineapple. Even if I was so full, I could not pass up the grilled pineapple. They had put some brown sugar glaze on the pineapples while they were on the grill. It was just yummy. The view and the vibe of sitting outside on the lanai makes all the difference. The family hosting and making dinner are from Brazil, so they know how to cook delicious food.

What is your favorite Brazilian food?

Service Project

My brother in law is trying to get his Eagle Scout project done before he turns 18. Eagle Scout project has to be done before a scout turns 18. So 6 days before his 18th birthday, he organized a service project. His service project was to clean up a green house over at Keehi Memorial Lagoon.

So this past Saturday, we went to Keehi Memorial Lagoon. Since living in Laie, we have to think twice about planning our time in town because of the drive. I know driving an hour to a place and another hour back home isn’t a lot for other people. For people living in Hawai’i, driving an hour is a long time. In all honesty, I sometimes enjoy having the luxury of living the country to go into the city.

Keehi Memorial Lagoon is actually a really pretty place, and I’ve never been to this place before. This place has different venues for parties and the landscape is well kept. While the men were putting up the lumber, I took a walk to look around and took some pictures. The landscape is beautiful and it was a nice day in general. The trade winds picked up, so it’s not as humid during the day.

Are you an Eagle Scout?

North Shore Tacos

I know I have written a review on this restaurant but it was on our way back home to Laie. North Shore Tacos is located in Hauula. While my husband was driving back home, he asked where should we have dinner. This question totally helped me wake up from on drive back home. Long car rides are just soothing, and I tend to fall asleep even if the car rides is 20 minutes or more.

So this time I decided to try the Nachos. I got the shredded chicken nachos. It was not my favorite. I guess I felt like there was not a lot of chicken on the nachos. I’m use to cheese being more creamy and not so much of a solid on chips. It just seemed like a clump of cheese on chips.

Dupixent update

My stomach and back area has improved so much from when I stated. Its been about 9 days since my first dosage. I did have some red flare ups on my hands. I think its because I stopped using topical steroids. I usually used topical steroids on my hands, because they can get bad. My face does feel a little better, but I do have some dry or flaky areas on my face and arms. I feel like my skin has a strong barrier. So before if I would scratch, I would easily be able to open up my skin but now its not so sensitive.

Those who are looking into starting Dupixent. I would say to at least try and see the difference yourself. Each person has a different but so the experience will be different. For my situation, I did try everything in order to have smooth skin. So this is my last resort and its definitely working. I still feel eating well determines how your skin reacts. I’m not so strict on not eating dairy or meat since being on Dupixent, but I think the reason why there a flare up on my hand, is probably because I’ve been eating dairy.

I’ve been feeling a little more confident on wearing short sleeve shirts. I would always wear shirts that had a 3/4 sleeves or more. I use to have red blotches or dry skin on my arms, but now my skin is becoming more smooth. I’m hoping my skin tone on my arms even out in the future.

Are you on Dupixent? How is you skin been on Dupixent? Or do you have a friend who has eczema?

Aloha!

How was your week?

Remember when I mentioned or talked about my GPC or my eye infection? This week I had to visit my eye doctor again on Wednesday. I live in Laie and I needed to drive to Honolulu. I think this is one of the cons about living in Laie is driving an hour into town for certain appointments. My eye appointment went actually well and its at a #2. I mean to say #2 because when you have GPC under your eye lids, the optometrist scale it from 1-4 which 4 is the worst. A month and a half ago my GPC was at a #4++, it was off the charts but now its at a #2.  I can wear contact lenses once a week for less than 8 hours. It’s just a step up because I do miss wearing contact lenses. Honestly, I still did not use my contact lenses because I wanted my eyes to heal before I start using my contact lenses again.

I mentioned to my husband about the hardships of wearing glasses all the time. I shouldn’t complain because I’m glad I have a great pair of glasses. Some commons hardships is when you are in an air-conditioned building and you walk outside in the humid your glasses fog up. Or when you are baking something in the oven and you open the oven door, then boom you glasses fog up again. I know sometimes when it’s just humid outside and you are talking to someone, sometimes my glasses would fog up and I would get embarrassed.

Good thing about my trip into town, I was able to go with my Sweden friend who needed to buy some loose-fitting clothes. Well we of course stopped by a thrift shop because it’s so inexpensive and they have lots of clothes. We shopped at Savers, and I have no problem with telling people I shop at a thrift shop because shopping in Hawai’i can be really expensive. At times, I rather buy clothes from Amazon or from an online shop because they have great deals. There are even lava lavas you could buy from a thrift shop. If you want to buy Hawaiian print clothing, I would recommend going to the Saturday market. Its cheaper at the Market and you get buy other Hawaii goods and even food. If you end up going to the Market, it’s located at the Aloha Stadium here on Oahu.

Neogen Dermatology: Green Tea Real Fresh Foam

This is an amazing cleanser, and it smells really nice. The instructions mentioned you can use one or two pumps, but honestly all you need is one pump and it goes a long way. This cleanser really felt moisturizing and did not dry up my skin at all.  It’s for people who have oil, sensitive, and dry skin. I have both dry and sensitive skin, and I had no bad reactions using this product, so I highly recommend this product.

I first went on Memebox and compared the prices for this product. Memebox website has skin care products and make up products, and they compare prices from different websites.

Dupixent

Have you heard of Dupixent? So I have eczema, and I had eczema ever since I was 8 years old until now. When I was 8 years old till middle school it was really bad. I remember my Mom wishing she could take it away from me. I did not want to wear clothing that would reveal my eczema skin. It was mainly behind my knees and on my arms and hands but it was so bad. While in High School, playing high school sports really helped my eczema not flare up. I think it was from exercising and it helped my immune system become strong. Going to College it started to get bad because I wasn’t exercising as much as I did in High School. I would get it again behind my legs and arms, so of course I started to use steroid creams and they would thin my skin out and leave white blotches on my skin. Living in Hawai’i, it’s warm and humid, and sweat agitated my eczema. So exercising outside is hard because if I had an open sore, it would make it really itchy.

Let me say, I read so many reviews about Dupixent right after my Allergist told me about this drug. Although its new, I didn’t have anything to lose because I tried everything to heal my eczema.

Dupixent was just FDA approved in February. According to National Eczema Association, “Dupixent works by blocking a type of protein called an interleukin, or IL, from binding to their cell receptors. Interleukins contribute to a functioning immune system by helping to fight off viruses or bacteria in our bodies. When the immune system goes haywire, it can trigger certain ILs to mistakenly attack the body, resulting in chronic inflammatory conditions such as atopic dermatitis.

Dupixent works on two interleukins thought to contribute to atopic diseases: IL-4 and IL-13. By blocking IL-4 and IL-13 from binding to the receptors, Dupixent curbs the immune system over-reaction that results in atopic dermatitis. A calmed immune system leads to fewer and/or less severe symptoms of AD.

People who suffer from eczema have found relief in this drug. Of course each person has a different body and the drug reacts differently for each person.

Injections

FullSizeRender

This past Friday was my first dosage for Dupixent, and since it was my first time I need to inject myself with two syringes. I’m not afraid of shots but giving myself a shot was something I could not do, so my husband had to give me my two shots. I felt like I was one of those people on YouTube, who almost fainted when a nurse was going to give them a shot but in comparison with giving myself my shot. Just the thought of giving myself my own shot made me scared and husband took the initiative and asked to do give the shot for me.

I’m 3 day from taking my first dosage. I don’t see major signs of improvement. Most of my eczema is seen on my arms, with dry blotches and bumps. I do have eczema on my tummy and back and legs. My skin still feels and looks the same, but I know everyone has different results with Dupixent. I decided to not use my steroid cream but just my steroid free ointment on my dry areas. I also stopped taking Zyrtec before bed because I don’t like feeling so groggy in the morning.

I wasn’t able to take a clear picture of the syringes and the box but I’ll be getting my next shot in 2 weeks. So Dupixent is a prescription used every two weeks and they call it maintenance shots after your first shots. I’ll try to remember to take a better photo of the syringes.

So do you know someone who has Eczema?

I’m not sponsored to write a review on the book or about Dupixent.

Caramel Apple

Have you ever heard of GPC?  Well it stands for giant papillary conjunctivitis, which is sort of an eye infection. One of the main symptoms are these little bumps that are under your eye lids. I have it ever since my husband and I moved to Laie. My allergies has been bad ever since we moved here. I’m allergic to dust and other things, my eyes got bad.  It just sucks because I can’t use my contact lenses until it heals.

So far I’ve been to about three eye doctor visits to see what type of eye drops I need to heal my eyes. In the middle of the night, it sort of feels like there a piece of lint stuck under my eye lids. It really is eye mucus stuck under my eye lids but because of the bumps prevent the mucus from moving anywhere. I’m sure they will heal, but glasses are cool too!

On Thursday, I drove to town again from Laie to Honolulu to see my allergist. Well I’m still allergic to shellfish. Being allergic to shellfish in Hawai’i means I’m a cheap date. My husband can eat all the shell fish at the buffet. I hoping my insurance will be able to approve me for this new drug Dupixent. Have you heard anyone with moderate or severe eczema? Well, I’m a person with moderate eczema. Eczema covers 40% of my body and there a days when it gets bad and some days when it does not bother me at all. This new drug Dupixent will manage the biological process of the eczema. “Biologic drugs, or biologics, are among the most targeted therapies available today because they essentially use human DNA to treat certain diseases at the immune system level. Dupixent limits the immune system from overreacting, lowering the severity of inflammation and decreasing the symptoms of atopic dermatitis. ” This is a major break through for the people who suffer from eczema.  There are so many success stories and I’m hoping my insurance is able to cover it.

Saturday was an amazing day. I was able to go to the Temple with my husband to witness a Temple Sealing. A Temple Sealing is when the couple or a family is bonded through all time and eternity. So have you heard of death to us apart? Temple Sealing goes beyond this life on earth. After this life, we’ll be able to be sealed with our family. We know where we will go and where we came from.

This family has a 3 year old son, and watching him put his hands on his parents hands was the sweetest. I’m definitely blessed to have the Gospel of Jesus Christ in my life. Each day through the struggles, I know its a learning opportunity instead of a complaining opportunity.

Caramel Apple! I love Lipsense. Lipsense stays on and the gloss just makes it pop even more. The best part is when I kiss my husband, he does not have to worry about having lipstick on his lips. Caramel Apple is so far my favorite, so if you are looking for a lipstick that will last, you need Lipsense.

Just want to leave with a quote “Life has been so unfair in my favor way to much for me to complain”. – Unknown

Have a great week. What is something you stop complaining about?

Aloha!

Featured picture, its my Husband and I after going tot he Temple. We went with our family and friends to North Shore Tacos. We had the Beach Burrito. I had the shredded chicken and my husband got the sweet pork of course. If you come to Hawai’i, you need to stop by North Shore Tacos if you are feeling a little spicy.
